Use this step-by-step tutorial to achieve the best possible repair with your Rotaris paint repair kit.
1. Preparation
- Clean the surface by removing any dust, grease, oil and dirt. Any residual grease will prevent proper adhesion of the paint to the frame.
- Wipe the surface dry with a cloth.
Your next step depends on which extras you have purchased with your order.
2. Primer
- Shake the bottle well for 1 minute, hard enough to hear the metal ball rattling.
- Apply a small amount of primer to ‘fill’ the surface unevenness. Using a wet finger, gently run over the primer to level the primer with the surrounding paint surface.
- Leave the primer to dry for 60 minutes.
3. Thinner
Please follow the recommended thinner mixture:
- Add 10-15% for lighter colours.
- Add 15-20% for darker colours.
- Add 5-10% for clear coat.
4. Colour paint
- Shake the bottle well for 1 minute, hard enough to hear the metal ball rattling.
- Practice your technique by first applying paint to a piece of scrap material. Keep in mind less is more. Multiple thin layers create a better end result than a single thick layer. Avoid creating brush strokes.
- Apply an evenly thin layer of paint.
- Leave the paint to dry for 30 minutes.
- Apply a 2nd evenly thin layer of paint.
- Leave the paint to dry for 2 hours.
Some special paints are developed in 2 colour layers. In this case you have been provided with 2 different bottles of colour paint, indicating layer 1 and layer 2. Leave 30 minutes of drying time between applying each layer.
5. Clear coat
- Shake the bottle well for 1 min. Apply an evenly thin layer of clear coat finish.
- Leave the frame to dry for 48 hours.
